Tatsuki has known Orihime before high school. Tatsuki is the only true friend Orihime has during those days when she was constantly bullied by her own classsmates because she has orange hair. They even cut her hair short before. However, when Tatsuki came into the picture and beat up those bullies, Orihime started to grow her hair again. It symbolizes the friendship between the two.

Next to Rangiku, Tatsuki is definitely the only person who can understand Orihime. In the manga, it was revealed that Tatsuki even knew that Orihime likes Ichigo.

Tatsuki has also noticed Orihime's strange behaviour before the whole soul society arc and had a girly talk with her.
